What To Know

  • Julie Chen Moonves revealed what it really takes to win Big Brother.
  • The longtime host was part of the show’s 1000th episode celebration event.

Although the past 27 winners of Big Brother have all had different strategies, host Julie Chen Moonves shared what she thinks it really takes to win the game.

The host, along with executive producers Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan and Season 24 winner Taylor Hale, was on a panel at the Televerse Festival in Los Angeles, California. The August 16 panel was titled “Big Brother: 1,000 Episodes Inside the House.”

Big Brother will become the first primetime show to reach 1,000 original episodes on August 27 with a special 90-minute celebration. Along with a live eviction, the episode will bring back memorable alumni from past seasons as well as unleash a new twist on the house.

At the panel, Chen Moonves shared her advice on how to win the CBS show. “I think if you want to win, you’ve got to do the Derrick Levasseur, which is you cannot have loose lips,” she said. Levasseur won Season 16 and got to the end by staying true to his Hitman alliance member, Cody Calafiore, and keeping quiet.

“Now Derrick wasn’t boring … but I think to be a good player to win, maybe be a little bit boring and not talk. That would be terrible for us on the show.”

Chen Moonves continued, “We’ve seen so many personalities win from the loudmouth Dick Donato, original pots banging, to Dr. Will Kirby, the original guy who was like, ‘I hate all of you. You should vote me out.’”

“We’ve seen different types of gameplay and strategies and personalities win, and I think that’s what makes the show so compelling. There is no formula because you never know what kind of chemistry is going to exist and what other personalities you have to coexist with because someone might bring out the worst in you,” she said.

Chen Moonves also said that some people get into the house and wind up not caring about winning because they get into a showmance. However, some showmances have made it to the finale two, either together or just one of them, with many of them winning.

Who will win this season? There is about a month and a half left until the finale on October 1, so it may be too soon to tell. Who do you think will win? Let us know in the comments.
