Every ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff Still in the Works

- Advertisment -

The list of Yellowstone spinoffs in the works just got smaller, and with Taylor Sheridan leaving Paramount in 2028/2029 for NBCUniversal, the window for new Yellowstone spinoffs made by Sheridan is shrinking. Still, there are two active spinoffs in the works, with one reportedly still in development. But the Four Sixes spinoff, 6666, is dead, according to Sheridan.

“There’s never going to be one,” Sheridan said in a new interview on the Rodeo Time podcast. “I would never fictionalize that ranch.”

“People thought that that was going to be a thing, but I would never do that,” he said. Sheridan didn’t mention anything about the previously announced Yellowstone prequel spinoff 1944, but it’s reportedly still in development.

The Madison and Lawmen: Bass Reeves were both originally believed to be narratively connected to Yellowstone when they were first announced. The Madison‘s supposed original name was 2024, and it was going to be tied to Yellowstone in the present day, but it was turned into a standalone series instead. (Season 1 premiered in March 2026, with Season 2 and Season 3 on the way.) Meanwhile, Lawmen: Bass Reeves was set up as an anthology series about famous lawmen and was speculated to be tied to Yellowstone prequels, but it was its own thing as well. There were hopes for more seasons that never came to fruition.

Here, we’ve compiled a status update on every TV show that’s reportedly in development in the Yellowstone TV universe, in order of when they’re expected to come out.

Marshals Season 2

Logan Marshall-Green as Pete Calvin, Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, and Brecken Merrill as Tate Dutton — 'Marshals' Season 1 Finale "Wolves at the Door"

Fred Hayes / CBS

Marshals follows Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) as he tries to make a new life for himself and son Tate (Brecken Merrill) after the death of his wife and Tate’s mom, Monica (Kelsey Asbille).

He joins the U.S. Marshals in Montana and forges new bonds with the team while mending his relationship with fellow former Navy SEAL, team leader Cal (Logan Marshall-Green).

Tate was kidnapped by a new adversary who wants to own Kayce’s East Camp Ranch in the Season 1 finale.

Marshals Season 2 is currently filming in Utah. It premieres Sunday, October 4, on CBS.

Dutton Ranch Season 2

Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) make a new life for their family with adopted son Carter (Finn Little) in Texas in Dutton Ranch.

Their ranch in Dillon, Montana, was destroyed by a fire, so they bought a legacy ranch in Rio Paloma, Texas, that came with a rival ranch similar to the Yellowstone nearby. The 10-Petal Ranch is run by Beulah Jackson (Annette Bening), whose secret drug smuggling business led to a major death in the Season 1 finale and resulted in Carter being kidnapped by the cartel.

Dutton Ranch Season 2 is in development, but it hasn’t begun filming. It will air on Paramount Network and Paramount+ when it returns, with Ed Harris in an expanded role.

1944

The would-be third Yellowstone prequel spinoff was announced in 2023 but has gotten no official updates since. However, it might not be dead like 6666.

Journalist Matt Webb Mitovich “assured” in his Matt’s Inside Line newsletter in June that 1944 is reportedly “still in development at Paramount.” There were no further details shared.

No plot details have been confirmed, but it has been speculated that 1944 could include surviving characters from 1923, such as an older Spencer Dutton, played by Brandon Sklenar in 1923.

Why 6666 Isn’t Happening

The 6666 spinoff had a series description and executive producers/studios attached when it was announced in 2022 by Paramount. It was said to be about the real-life famous Texan ranch to which Jimmy (Jefferson White) was sent to train in Yellowstone Season 4 before he made his move permanent.

Sheridan said on the Rodeo Time podcast that he’s “actually got on my computer all the scenes of Jimmy at the 6666 pulled out and strung together, and it makes its own perfect little movie. You watch him go there as this misfit, and leave as a man and a respected cowboy.”

Sheridan said that making a series about the Four Sixes would be disrespectful to the real people who run it.

“So now I’m trivializing and fictionalizing something where real people work, and they raise their families there, and I could never do that to them,” the Yellowstone creator said. “I could never do that to the cowboys that dedicated themselves, and everybody that works on that ranch. I’m very protective of the Sixes, and it’s a big responsibility to be the person who has to protect that ranch, so I have to be very, very careful with it.”
