Grey’s Anatomy recently returned for a new season. However, fans are already wondering if there will be even more to expect from the franchise. Recently, one of the series’ showrunners shared an update about a spin-off that was previously said to be in development. Grey’s Anatomy Recently Returned For Season 23 In Mid-October 2026

Grey’s Anatomy is ABC’s longest-running scripted primetime series. Making its debut in 2005, the medical drama revolves around the fictitious Seattle Grace Hospital, later becoming known as the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

Grey’s Anatomy is currently in its 23rd season. The latest season made its debut on October 15, 2026, with the premiere episode, “Collide.”

Back in May, news was confirmed that a Texas-based spinoff of the show was in the works. In a recent interview with Deadline, series showrunner Meg Marinis confirmed that it was still in development.

Marinis shared, “We are currently working hard on [the spinoff]. I’m just grateful that I get to create this with Shonda, it’s a dream. We’re working hard, and we’re working away, and I’m learning a lot about developing and creating a show, which I didn’t know before.”

Marinis also described what it was like working on the spinoff with Shonda Rhimes. The executive producer shared. “It’s one thing to be able to work for her but to be able to do it with her it’s really fun.”

Meg Marinis Also Weighed In If A Few Familiar Faces Would Be Returning For Season 23

Marinis continued, “She spins everything into gold; you send something to her and then she sends it back and it’s amazing. It’s really fun, I haven’t been able to work like this with her in a while, she’s branched out and gotten so many shows, so it’s really fun. We have a great relationship.”

While the spinoff will take place in Texas, characters from the Seattle-based parent show are expected to make cameos. Marinis noted, however, things are still being worked out: “We’re still figuring out which episode, but yeah, just, traditionally with a spinoff [that’s done.] We’re still working out on timing.”

With the show currently in its 23rd season, fans are also wondering if they will see familiar faces also return to the main show. Marinis noted, “We’re always open to bringing back old characters.”

“One of the joys of having a Season 23 show is that you get to do that, and it’s also such a great gift to the fans. It always just depends on how much room we have creatively. And people’s schedules because people leave the show and they go on to take other jobs, and it just gets tricky.”
