After 10 episodes of double-crosses, betrayals, and high-stakes espionage, The Agency Season 2 leaves its biggest players in precarious positions. The finale answers some lingering questions but largely serves as a launching pad for the future, with several characters captured, compromised, or fighting for their lives. Warning: The following post contains spoilers for The Agency Season 2.
Brandon Colby, codename Martian (Michael Fassbender), is on a mission to save Dr. Sami Zahir (Jodie Turner-Smith), no matter the enormous personal cost. Danny Morata, codename Gremlin (Saura Lightfoot-Leon), finds herself in a life-or-death fight for survival, and the CIA’s battle against a new enemy named Viking (Clayne Crawford) leaves the organization mounting losses. While some mysteries are answered, the finale also serves as a launching pad for Season 3, leaving several characters compromised. Here’s where the season leaves Martian, Samia, Danny, and the rest of the major players.
How do things end for Martian and Samia?
Martian’s central goal in Season 2 involves saving Samia, the Sudanese academic and former lover he met while undercover in Season 1 as “Paul.” After the failed rescue attempt at the end of Season 1, Samia remains imprisoned and is subjected to repeated psychological and physical torture. Her captors pressure her to reveal information about Martian’s CIA identity, while also manipulating her by threatening her family.

Eventually, she is released into the United Kingdom under the guise of a humanitarian effort, but it becomes clear that her freedom comes at a price: Her mother and sister are still being held, forcing her to become a mouthpiece for the RSF (Rapid Support Forces). Throughout the season, Martian sacrifices his career, reputation, and relationships as he works behind the scenes to find a way to truly free her.
Their relationship becomes increasingly complicated as the reality of Samia’s trauma sets in. When they first reunite after her release, Samia rejects Martian, unable to separate her suffering from the choices he made as an intelligence officer. Later, with help from Blair (Ambreen Razia), Samia is finally rescued, leading to an emotional reunion with Martian. Yet their love story remains bittersweet as Samia admits that the people they were when they fell in love no longer exist after everything she endured.
Who is the mole in the CIA?
Martian’s season is also tied to a growing conspiracy involving MI6 chief Richardson (Hugh Bonneville). While secretly working with MI6 to help free Samia, Martian becomes suspicious of Richardson’s motives and gradually uncovers evidence that he is leaking intelligence to China. His efforts to expose the mole put him at odds with CIA London Deputy Station Chief Henry Ogletree (Jeffrey Wright) and much of the Agency, who initially believe Martian has gone rogue. Ultimately, Martian is proven right when Richardson is revealed to be a longtime Chinese asset embedded within British intelligence.
After the truth comes to light, Martian shoots Richardson, helping bring down one of the season’s biggest threats.
What happens to Martian?
Viking is the central villain for Season 2. Once known as Vernon Crawford, he is an American-born former Marine who became a feared operative within the Russian-backed mercenary organization Valhalla. Throughout the season, the Agency uncovers that Viking is much more than a brutal soldier; he is a sophisticated intelligence player who uses diamond smuggling operations in Central Africa to expand Russian influence, prop up friendly regimes, and fund geopolitical ambitions. His network becomes a major focus of the CIA’s efforts as Martian, Henry, Owen, and the rest of the team attempt to identify and exploit weaknesses in his operation.
The CIA originally sends in Owen, but Viking is on to him early and sends him back to them, sans one leg.
In the finale, Martian goes rogue to get close to Viking, assuming the identity of a shady diamond dealer and infiltrating Valhalla’s operation in the Central African Republic. His plan is essentially a suicide mission: He smuggles in a bomb disguised as a chess clock and detonates it during a tense meeting with Viking. Although the explosion devastates the operation, Martian survives and attempts to escape under heavy gunfire. He is ultimately captured by Valhalla.
The CIA loses track of him and assumes he is likely dead, but the final moments reveal that Viking’s men have kept him alive because they know who he really is. The season ends with Martian beaten, imprisoned, and facing the prospect of torture, setting up a dangerous new chapter for Season 3.
What happens to Danny?
In Season 1, audiences watch Danny learn the ropes and test out her spy baby teeth. In Season 2, she finally gets to sink them in.
Danny meets Hassan in Tehran while working undercover as an architecture student. At a party hosted by Hassan (Keanush Tafreshi) and his girlfriend Darya (Medalion Rahimi), she witnesses Hassan violently attack her friend out of jealousy. Hassan’s father, Majid Zamani, is one of the most important figures in Iran’s political and nuclear programs. Hassan becomes a potentially invaluable future asset.

Danny is tasked with getting close to him and gradually wins his trust. She inserts herself into his personal life, befriends Darya, becomes his emotional support system, exploits his resentment toward his father after Darya is tortured and leaves him, and eventually seduces him. As Hassan grows increasingly dependent on her, he begins confiding sensitive information, making him one of the Agency’s most promising intelligence targets.
The operation starts to unravel when Hassan becomes involved in unauthorized communications tied to a Chinese intelligence asset. After proposing to Danny and becoming more deeply entangled in espionage that he barely understands, he is arrested by Iranian authorities. Investigators uncover suspicious messages connected to nuclear facilities and accuse him of spying. Danny is arrested as well, with authorities believing she is part of the same network.
By the end of the season, Hassan is being tortured and interrogated, but refuses to give Danny up, insisting the blame falls on him. Danny is marked for execution during a prison transfer, escapes an assassination attempt, survives on the run, and is ultimately rescued.
