The 2027 Super Bowl falls on Valentine’s Day, which could be a problem for many couples. Now, a new scandal has kicked off backlash after Jay-Z was announced as the halftime show performer. His company Roc Nation co-produces the show and has the final say in choosing the headlining artist. Keep reading to find out what the rapper had to say about the backlash.

Miley Cyrus, Justin Bieber Reportedly Passed Over For Super Bowl 2027

NFL fans thought for sure that a “safe” choice would headline the 2027 Super Bowl halftime show after last year’s controversy. Bad Bunny’s performance divided viewers, partly because of his outspoken political beliefs. Conservative group Turning Point USA put on an alternate halftime show headlined by Kid Rock.

Apple Music announced Jay-Z as the 2027 halftime show headliner. Multiple outlets reported earlier this month that Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus were in consideration for the gig. Miley Cyrus did perform at a Bowl – the famous Hollywood Bowl.

Jay-Z as the Super Bowl performer sparked outrage online, with many upset that he seemingly chose himself. Roc Nation has been co-producing the halftime show since 2019. Some fans also slammed another rap/hip-hop performer after Bad Bunny (2026,) Kendrick Lamar (2025,) and Usher (2024.)

  • “Jay-Z Presents a Jay-Z Production of “Jay-Z!” Starring Jay-Z, written and directed by Jay-Z, with special appearances by Jay-Z”
  • “This really does scream of desperation move to find someone.”
  • “He had long and tense negotiations with himself before he agreed to his offer.”
  • “Like how Mike Richards rigged the Jeopardy host selection process so he could pick himself.”
  • “Super Bowl halftimes have always been a showcase of aged dad music”
  • “we all know who the special guest will be: Blue Ivy debuting her first solo single”
  • “The only way this can be worthwhile is all the songs are all collabs… Beyoncé, Mariah Carey, Rihanna, Linkin Park, Alicia Keys, J Cole, Lenny Kravitz, Snoop Dogg”

Despite the backlash, a lot of people hope Beyoncé joins her husband on stage. She previously appeared as a guest during Coldplay’s 2016 performance and headlined with Destiny’s Child in 2013.

Jay-Z Breaks Silence On Halftime Show Backlash

Super Bowl LXI takes place at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, on Sunday, February 14, 2027. It’s too early to say which two NFL teams will be competing.

Jay-Z broke his silence on the backlash when TMZ caught up with him recently. “I don’t have pressure,” he said about the upcoming performance. The rapper added that he’s prepping the “same as always” for the big game.

Jay-Z is a hip-hop legend. However, his last album was 2017’s “4:44.” He definitely has the catalog of hits to make a great halftime show, but was he the right choice? Share your thoughts in the comments.
