‘Jeopardy!’ Contestant Said They Had ‘Out of Body Experience’ on Show

One Jeopardy! contestant claimed to have an “out-of-body experience” on the show after going against six-day champion, Adam Remsen. She spoke out about her time on the game show.

Remsen, from Memphis, Tennessee, entered his seventh game with a total of $124,502. On June 22, he played against Kyla Wall-Polin, from Petaluma, California, and Carlos Cea, from San Francisco, California.

A Reddit user said that they would love to see a play-by-play of the episode to know what the contestants were thinking in the moment. Wall-Polin, a data analyst, replied and said that she didn’t remember anything. “Honestly, I barely remember anything about being on the show. It’s kind of an out-of-body experience. I do remember thinking at one point, ‘Oh right, I’m actually playing and not watching on TV, I need to be buzzing in more.’ But I don’t think it would be that interesting,” she wrote. Warning: Spoilers for the June 22 episode of Jeopardy! ahead!

Remsen, an attorney and theater director, was tied with Wall-Polin with $800 when he found the Daily Double on clue three. He wagered the allotted $1,000.

The clue in” Literary Subtitles” was: “This Cormac McCarthy novel subtitled ‘The Evening Redness in the West’ has been called both the ultimate Western & anti-Western.” He answered correctly with “What is ‘Blood Meridian’?” and it gave him the lead with $1,800.

By the first commercial break, Remsen had the lead with $8,400. Cea, a software quality assurance engineer, was in second place with $2,200. Wall-Polin had $800.

Remsen continued to lead by the end of the round with $10,600. Cea had $3,200. Wall-Polin was in third place with $3,000.

Cea found the first Double Jeopardy Daily Double on clue 11. He had $8,400 compared to Remsen’s $14,600. Cea wagered $4,00 in “Biblical Geography?” The clue read, “The name of this capital city between the Pacific Ocean & the Andes is the Spanish version of an apostle’s name.”

“What is Santiago?” he answered correctly. That gave him $12,400, tightening the lead between him and Remsen.

He also found the second DD on clue 17. Cea had $14,400, $2,000 less than Remsen.

The game show contestant wagered $4,000. In “Math Folk,” the clue was: “In the 18th c. Leonhard Euler popularized ‘Latin Squares’, forerunners of the puzzles that got this name in 1984.”

“What are Rubik’s Cubes?” Cea answered incorrectly. The correct response was Sudoku, so he dropped down to $10,400.

Remsen had $20,600 by the end of the round. Cea had $12,400. Wall-Polin trailed in third place with $5,400.

The Final Jeopardy category was “Ancient Authors.” The clue read, “A mural discovered in Tajikistan of a man stabbing a fowl is cited as evidence that this author’s works traveled the Silk Road.” Only one contestant got it right.

Wall-Polin answered, “Who is Plato?” She was incorrect and wagered $2,900, giving her $2,500. “Who is Diogenes?” was Cea’s response. He was wrong and wagered $8,201. That made his final total $4,199.

Remsen was right with his response of “Who is Aesop?” He wagered $4,201, making his final total $24,801. That gave him a seven-day total of $149,303. He will return on Tuesday for his eighth game.

“The whole Jeopardy experience is so hazy and dreamlike in my memory, but I guess now it’s going to be on TV, so there will be proof it was real,” Wall-Polin wrote on that day’s Reddit thread.
