Joe Amabile had a huge Bachelor Nation redemption arc when he went from being first sent home to marrying the love of his life. However, now he’s facing a new set of challenges after his brain cancer diagnosis. Keep reading to hear what he has to say about it all.
Joe Amabile’s Wild Journey
Even though he’s become a huge member of Bachelor Nation, Joe Amabile will be the first to admit he was the first to be sent home when he was on Becca Kufrin’s season of The Bachelorette. Of course, that was a sad time for him. But he later came back to star on another Bachelor Nation show, Bachelor in Paradise. In the first round of BiP, he fell in love with Kendall Long. While they seemed meant to be at the time, they ended up splitting in 2020.
However, that wasn’t the end of his journey. After returning to Paradise, he ended up finding the love of his life, Serena Pitt. They got engaged on the show and later married in 2022.
However, things have recently taken a turn. Joe was diagnosed with brain cancer earlier this summer and had to have surgery. He’s in high spirits, though, and took to Instagram to talk about this mindset.
He shared a video of himself along with the following caption:
“3 weeks since my surgery and this is my mindset moving forward…Keep in mind I’m starting from a really good place and I’m one of the lucky ones. They removed the whole tumor, it came back low grade, and there’s a new medication that puts to sleep whatever tumor cells I have left over.”
Feeling Pathetic
The video of Joe consists of him talking about what he thought was a low low in his life – being the first person sent home from The Bachelorette.
“When I was 30, I went on The Bachelorette, and I got sent home on Night 1, like most of you know,” he starts.
“I thought at the time it was the worst thing that could ever happen to me. It felt pathetic; I felt pathetic. It wound up being the best thing,” he continues.
“[That’s] WAY worse than getting sent home Night 1.”
Now, Joe is applying that same thinking to his current situation.
“But I’m going to figure out how I can turn this into the best thing ever. So if anyone’s got any suggestions…” Joe says.
