Viewers saw Kelly Ripa take a break from Live! with Kelly and Mark a few months back. Recently, her husband and co-host Mark Consuelos announced that he will soon be undergoing surgery. In fact, he shared that he was heading to the procedure after filming wrapped up.
Mark Consuelos & Kelly Ripa Officially Team Up On Live! In 2023
As an actor, Consuelos first came to fame playing Mateo Santos on All My Children. At the time, he and Kelly Ripa would play love interests around a year before they married in real life.
For many, Consuelos is also well known for co-hosting Live! with Kelly and Mark alongside Ripa. He became her permanent official co-host in 2023, with Ripa having joined the show in 2001.
The Live! host shared on the September 25 episode of the series that he was about to head into surgery right after filming wrapped up. As he explained to his wife at the start of the episode, “Today’s the day. I’ve been putting off this toe surgery for about a year.”
Ripa confirmed that she would be accompanying her spouse to the procedure. However, she admitted to an ulterior motive: “I’m not resisting the opportunity to video capture you coming out of your propofol haze.”
Consuelos agreed with the sentiment: “That’s right. People say some funny, funny things,” in reference to the intravenous anesthetic. Ripa noted, “I have you on video from your last foot surgery!”
Mark admitted already feeling a bit out of sorts due to fasting before the procedure. Ripa was surprised by this, noting, “I’ve never heard of fasting for 24 hours before a surgery.” Her spouse joked, “It’s dumb. I just want to eat! I can be convinced to eat at any moment!”

Consuelos didn’t express much about the surgery. However, he shared, “No, it’s arthritic. It’s bad. I need help. Yeah, it hurts.”
The couple then discussed Consuelos’ recovery, listing ways to care for someone after surgery. Mark shared some requests with his spouse, including taking over some of his responsibilities, like walking the dog. He also asked her to be present during the recovery. He teased, “Put your phone down, take your AirPods out of your ears.”
Kelly also came up with ideas to keep Mark busy during his recovery process. As she explained, “I can teach you to knit, if you want!” Consuelos joked, “Yeah! I’m going to bedazzle my boot.”
Notably, this comes out after Ripa herself recovered from gum graft surgery back in July, causing her to miss several episodes of the show. At the time, Mark served as one of his wife’s caretakers. With these recent happenings, it is now his time to recover.
