Maks Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd have longed to expand their family for quite some time. Their son Shai was born in 2017 and they love him dearly. But they also sincerely want to have another child and give Shai a sibling. After trying to conceive for years and experiencing several tragic miscarriages, Maks and Peta are finally expecting their rainbow baby.
But how exactly is the little family celebrating? See what Maks Chmerkovskiy had to say in a recent interview.
Maks Chmerkovskiy and his family are keeping things low-key this time
Peta Murgatroyd’s due date is in June 2023, so it’s likely they already know the baby’s sex. However, it doesn’t appear that they’re releasing that information anytime soon. During this pregnancy, Maks and Peta just want to take things one day at a time.
“It’s a lot more mature adult process. We’re at the moment of, let’s calmly celebrate together, let’s just make sure this happens first,” Maks told Distractify. “We’ve done that, ‘Hey, baby, I’m pregnant!’ thing before, and then it didn’t work. So it wasn’t really about finding out that we were pregnant. It’s now about finding out that, you know, this is a healthy, successful, and easy pregnancy.”
He went on to say that Peta’s latest miscarriage happened in January 2022, shortly before the Ukrainian war broke out. Maks was judging a dance show in the country at the time and barely managed to escape. For now, the couple just wants to stay as stress-free as possible and focus on a healthy pregnancy.
Right now, Maks Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd do have a lot to be thankful for. It seems as if Peta’s pregnancy is continuing well. And on top of that, Maks’ younger brother Val and his wife Jenna Johnson recently welcomed their own son.
“My brother is finally a father,” Maks happily told Distractify. “I mean, there are so many things that the Chmerkovskiys have to celebrate.”
Fans hope that the family has nothing but positive news from here on out.
Peta Murgatroyd amazes her husband with her resilience
When Peta Murgatroyd publically announced that she was expecting, she added that it wasn’t through IVF after all. The first round failed and they found out they were expecting just before starting the second round.
In another recent interview, Maks revealed that his wife was so depressed that she was near death after the first round failed.
“So, when we were going through IVF and it was very public and it didn’t work, Peta was near death for 24 hours, in extreme depression,” the professional dancer told ET. “Then I watched her literally get up, dial our casting director and say, ‘I want my job back,’ and two days later, she was on Dancing With The Stars training her first celebrity, so my hat’s off. I cannot tell you how proud I am of her, how just — getting emotional — but some of the strongest people are usually right around us, so, she’s definitely someone that I look up to.”
