Martha Stewart recently got people talking with a Halloween share. While the image appeared to have been taken down, it still managed to spread online, sparking a number of directions. Since then, Stewart has als shared a response concerning the story. Interestingly, this isn’t the only time Stewart has made headlines over this year’s spooky season.
Martha Stewart Originally Appeared To Include The Photo In A Post Discussing Her QVC Candles
Stewart is a retail businesswoman and media personality. In 1990, she launched the magazine, Martha Stewart Living, eventually founding Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia.
Stewart has also been the face of a number of television shows. These include Martha Stewart’s Living, Martha Bakes, Martha Knows Best, and Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party.
In a photo shared on social media, Stewart could be seen dressed in tattered clothes with a dirty face. She held up a sign reading, “I am hungry. Help me!” Two of the lifestyle mogul’s dogs could also be seen at her feet.
The pic was reportedly featured in a carousel post promoting candles Stewart sells on QVC. In a caption, she wrote, “My QVC candles are perfect for Halloween!!!,” portraying the outfit as a Halloween costume.
Stewart Later Shared A Lengthy Statement Over The Image
According to TMZ, the post has since been taken down. However, many were able to share the image across social media.
In a later share with the outlet, Stewart shared, “I’ve spent decades teaching others how to celebrate Halloween — sharing fun, festive recipes, providing unique craft ideas, and giving tips on entertaining and hosting to make the most of one of my favorite holidays of the year.”

The lifestyle mogul also claimed that she meant to promote awareness with the share:”I am distressed that my Halloween costume yesterday, which was intended to bring more awareness to the very serious subject of homelessness, has offended people, which was never my intention.”
As Stewart continued, “Homelessness continues to remain one of America’s greatest challenges and ongoing crises, something that I care deeply about and I have spent a significant amount of time and effort supporting charities that combat this ongoing social epidemic.”
Stewart Also Had A Holiday Mishap While Appearing On Today
This isn’t the only time this year that Stewart’s Halloween costume has made headlines. A few days prior, she made an appearance on Today as part of a segment where she decorated cakes for the holiday.
At the time, Stewart was dressed as she had during the 2024 Olympics, pairing herself with Craig Melvin, who was dressed as her famous friend, Snoop Dogg. Things took a turn, however, when Melvin accidentally spilled some chocolate ganache on her white pants. However, Stewart was able to have a good laugh over the incident.
With this recent pic, however, people shared mixed reactions. Some defended it as just a costume. However, others thought it was disrespectful towards those in need. Some comments included:
- “Of all the Halloween costumes she could’ve chosen, this is a strange one. I’m not easily offended, but I’m having a hard time figuring out what’s supposed to be funny here.”
- “People are so thin skinned. It’s Halloween and it’s a joke.”
- “She thinks old women on the street is comedy gold. And according to the comments so do people one step up from it.”
- “Yeah, a super-rich lady wearing that costume hits differently.”
- “I mean… weird costume for a rich adult to do.”
- “In a world with millions of costume choices, why pick something making fun of the downtrodden?”
- “It’s a throwback to her childhood. ‘Bum’ or ‘Hobo’ was a popular costume in the middle of the last century. Charcoal to dirty the face, bundle on a stick, etc.”
- “I’m sure QVC was thrilled!!”
