  • The Madison Season 2 has already been filmed and awaits a premiere date. The Taylor Sheridan drama has been renewed for Season 3.

The Madison Season 2 has already been filmed, and it still doesn’t have a release date, but Michelle Pfeiffer just gave an update on what to expect after the finale cliffhanger that brought her character, Stacy Clyburn, back to Montana. Warning: The Madison Season 1 spoilers ahead!

Created by Taylor Sheridan, The Madison is a study of how love evolves after the loss of a soulmate. Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell play Stacy and Preston Clyburn, an exorbitantly wealthy Manhattan couple who have been deeply in love since they were 19 years old. They’re grandparents when the series begins and still finding themselves parenting their adult children who have been coddled by their family’s wealth.

Stacy and Preston were in good health and had many more years of marriage ahead of them when The Madison began, but tragedy struck when Preston and his brother, Paul (Matthew Fox), were killed in a plane crash during a fishing trip in Montana.

Season 1 ended with Stacy returning to Montana and dedicating herself to making life work there. Beau Garrett (Abigail) told TV Insider that the rest of the family will have to return to Montana in The Madison Season 2. Now, Pfeiffer has revealed what troubles will arise after Stacy’s return to the place her husband loved so much.

“I think the honeymoon is over,” Pfeiffer told Deadline, “and I think we see — or the family sees, and Stacy even sees — that this is going to be a lot harder than the idealism of Montana. And the beauty of it, and the romance of being there, starts to fall away and we see that it’s potentially untenable.”

Preston spent many years visiting his and his brother’s cabins in the Madison River Valley, but his wife and kids never joined him. The plane crash brings the family to Montana for the first time, and Season 1 takes place over the course of the first week after the accident. Stacy reads Preston’s years’ worth of journals in the cabin to try and understand a side of her husband she never let herself see, which made an emotional connection to Montana take root in her.

The family eventually went back to Manhattan for Preston’s funeral, but Stacy’s grief made staying there feel impossible. She flew back to Montana in the Season 1 finale without telling anyone and without her phone so she could lay by Preston’s grave on the land he bought for them.

In regards to finale, Pfeiffer told TV Insider that “Season 2 is the messy and profound building of having lost everything that you know. Are you going to survive?” Russell added that, for Stacy, “it becomes questionable whether she’s going to survive.”

“The family is fractured,” said Pfeiffer. “How are they going to survive this as a family? How is Stacy going to survive her grief and the loss of the only man she has ever loved in her life? They’re so entangled together, as you’re still forming as a person. Where does one end and the other begin?”

The Madison has already been renewed for Season 3 at Paramount+.
