Shopping virtually is the standard these days. But back in the 1980s, ordering something on your phone and having it delivered was revolutionary. Former rivals, QVC and the Home Shopping Network, are now owned by the same company. Beloved QVC host Rick Domeier announced a shocking career change after over three decades with the channel. Keep reading to find out what’s going on.

Rick Domeier Announces Shocking Career Change

For many TV viewers, QVC became part of their daily routine. Over the years, Rick Domeier became a familiar face to viewers. He joined QVC in 1994. The beloved host earned the nickname “Rick St. Nick” for his Christmas shows, though he appeared in other segments as well.

He ended the network’s Christmas In July special on Thursday, July 30, with some shocking news. His time with the shopping network was coming to an end. Rick Domeier announced that he was retiring at the end of the year. However, he revealed another shocking career change.

His final few months with QVC will be spent traveling the country for a special segment. Rick Hits the Road follows the fan-favorite host as he visits viewers at various stops across the country.

“They’re giving me a new show. It’s called Rick Hits the Road. We’re going to do some broadcasts from different cities. The first stop is New Orleans. That’s coming up next week. It’s going to be with Jimmy Stovall and Ali Carr and the crew, and we’re going to meet the QVC customer. More stops to come,” he told Us Weekly about the miniseries.

Why He Decided To Retire Now

Rick Domeier has spent the last 32 years selling products to television viewers. His retirement announcement came three months after the network’s parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. However, that doesn’t appear to have influenced the host’s decision to retire.

He shared with Us Weekly why it’s time for him to leave QVC. He decided it was the “perfect time” to retire to spend more time with his wife and family. “My wife and I are gonna spend some time together. … We have a lot of travel ideas. There’s also a wedding coming up with my son that’s coming up in 2027. There’s also an opportunity to reconnect with friends,” he told the outlet.

Rick Domeier will be on QVC until the end of the year. He teased his hopes for his final episode. “There’ll be clips. There’ll be people stopping by. I do think that there’s going to be a live audience show or two. I want that to happen,” he said.
