Stuart might be failing on his mission, but he is succeeding in so many other ways, as the cast of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe will get more chances to save Earth — and other versions of it — after HBO Max renewed The Big Bang Theory spinoff for a second season.
Premiering on July 23 and created by Chuck Lorre, Zak Penn, and Bill Prady, the comedy is only four episodes into the 10 of its first bonkers season. The series follows comic book store owner Stuart Bloom (Kevin Sussman), who is tapped to help repair a device built by Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg), Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons), and Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki) that accidentally triggers a multiverse catastrophe.
Joined by his galpal Denise (Lauren Lapkus) and friends Bert (Brian Posehn) and Kripke (John Ross Bowie), Stuart must travel through alternate universes and encounter very different versions of familiar faces as he tries to undo the damage and save reality itself.

While talking to TV Insider recently before the renewal, star Kevin Sussman shared what he would want to see if the show got a Season 2. “It would be cool to see a little bit of growth in terms of him taking a leadership position and sort of owning it more in Season 2,” said Sussman. “But again, it’s weird. It still needs to be a comedy, and the comedic engine is the fact that he is the worst person, the last person that should be put in charge of saving the universe.”
“I’m sure whatever they write will be amazing. I mean, every script that we get, we’ve been like, oh my god, this is insane. But I love it,” added Sussman.
