The wait for a new season can be a real witch, but fans of The Witcher will just have to be patient. A new report claims the fantasy Netflix series’ fifth season won’t premiere until 2027.
The website What’s on Netflix reports any mention of The Witcher fifth and final season coming out this year has been erased from Netflix’s public-facing promotional websites and media center. Additionally, the site says it has confirmed that Season 5 will instead come out in 2027, though it notes that Netflix has neither confirmed the rescheduling nor locked in a 2027 release window.
Meanwhile, production on The Witcher’s fifth season has apparently been finished for close to a year now. The fan site Redaninan Intelligence reported that wrap at the end of September 2025, after The Witcher star Freya Allan (Ciri) told Instagram followers she had shot her final scene.

What’s on Netflix speculates Netflix delayed The Witcher Season 5 until 2027 to spend more time on the post-production work the VFX-heavy production requires, to free up its 2026 schedule for new seasons of TV shows like Black Doves and 3 Body Problem, and to bolster its 2027 schedule with a tentpole debut.
Netflix ordered the fifth and final season of The Witcher in April 2024 as the cast and crew started filming Season 4, in which Liam Hemsworth took over for Henry Cavill in the part of monster hunter Geralt of Rivia. In a press release, Netflix said Seasons 4 and 5 would film back to back and would adapt the last three novels in Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher series: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake.
“We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion,” showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said at the time. “It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends.”
