Will Anthony Head’s Rupert Return in Posthumous Appearance?

What To Know

  • Ted Lasso Season 4 has arrived, but will it include a posthumous appearance from Anthony Head as Rupert?
  • We take a look at the key factors that may hint at his possible onscreen return.

Ted Lasso‘s fourth season has arrived, and while fans rejoice over the show’s return, one question looms as we anticipate the inclusion of fan-favorite characters. Will Rupert (Anthony Head) appear in any episodes?

While Rebecca’s (Hannah Waddingham) ex-husband may not be a particular favorite, as he’s primarily been seen as a villain since the series debuted in 2020, it would be hard to imagine the show without him. While Head died earlier this year, he was still alive when filming for Season 4 took place, which leaves his potential inclusion in the story yet to unfold.

Another particular detail that makes us believe that Head’s posthumous appearance is possible is the fact that the show has yet to dedicate an installment to the late actor. Considering Head’s heftier presence in the series during its original three-season run, it would make sense for Ted Lasso to honor the actor, but if he’s going to appear in an episode, they may hold that dedication until that particular episode.

Only time will tell for certain as the Apple TV comedy delves into the ups and downs of coaching the Richmond women’s team to (hopefully) victory as Ted (Jason Sudeikis) makes his comeback.

As fans will recall, Rupert was a catalyst for Ted’s arrival in England in the first place as Rebecca initially hired the American football coach in the hopes of having his inexperience with soccer tank the A.F.C. Richmond team. Things obviously took a different turn, but Rupert was always a meddlesome thorn in the characters’ sides, and we can’t imagine a season without him.

Rupert even went so far as to set up an opposing team, West Ham, but he was ultimately ousted for allegations and a violent act against a colleague. Could he seek revenge by forming a women’s team before Season 4 is through? We can only imagine. Head died in June 2026, after filming for Ted Lasso Season 4 had long been wrapped.

Let us know your theories and stay tuned to see if Head’s Rupert makes a posthumous appearance as the episodes unfold.
