William Shatner Hated ‘Masked Singer’ Experience

TV Shows

The Masked Singer is rolling along fast this season. Every week, there are multiple people eliminated, and only one moves on. There is one person who was eliminated early that’s happy they are off the show. This would be William Shatner as he did not enjoy this experience.

Here is what William Shatner said after his unmasking as Knight on The Masked Singer.

William Shatner on The Masked Singer experience

Knight on The Masked Singer

In Week 1, The Knight came out and performed, and most people recognized the clues as being for William Shatner. However, no one really expected Shatner to be on The Masked Singer, so it was still a surprise to see him unmasked. After singing “Puttin’ On the Ritz” by Fred Astaire, Shatner was the first person to unmask.

After leaving the show, Shatner said he was happy to get the mask off after his performance. He also told PEOPLE it was a “whirlwind experience” after this elimination. He also mentioned that he couldn’t hear or see anything while performing. “I couldn’t hear the orchestra. I couldn’t see anybody — the people, dancers,” Shatner said. “It was bizarre.”

Shatner also said that it seemed right to join the show. At 91, he is the oldest celeb ever to perform on The Masked Singer. “Everything seemed like a good idea at the time, until you do it,” Shatner said, comparing it to declaring war. “Nothing is what you planned. I couldn’t speak, couldn’t hear, couldn’t breathe. Like everybody else that I know who has done the show, the performance is a lot less than what you had hoped for because of the awkwardness of the wardrobe.”

While he said the experience was unpleasant, he said that it was part of the fun of the show for viewers. However, he also added that he won’t watch his performance in the future. This has nothing to do with The Masked Singer, as Shatner said he never re-watches his performances. However, this was even worse, as he said he was sure the performance “went to hell.”

Who has moved on so far this season?

In the first two weeks of the season, there have been five people who have already been unmasked. This included William Shatner as The Knight. The second person to unmask in Week 1 was Monty Python alum, Eric Idol. A third person ended up eliminated that week but waited for Week 2 to unmask. That was NSYNC member Chris Kirkpatrick as Hummingbird. Many fans thought it was Tom Brady.

The second week also saw two more people unmask. Comedian Jeff Dunham was unmasked as the Pi-Rat while singer Montell Jordan was unmasked as Panther. Harp returned as well, and once again moved on.
