‘Yellowstone‘ Fans Wonder About Locations Where Series Is Filmed

TV Shows

Because the show is one of the most popular on television, it’s true that Yellowstone fans wonder about the locations where the series is filmed.

It’s hard not to wonder about that sort of thing. While the acting and storylines are excellent, one thing stands out for this Paramount Network show. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous.

No, we’re not talking about the very beautiful women, nor the handsome men. This time around, it’s the actual scenery that is stealing the show.

Series creator Taylor Sheridan has done a very good job of making sure people see what the area around the ranch is supposed to look like. It’s not just the best drama on television these days. It’s also quite the tourism pitch for the state of Montana.

Yellowstone Fans Wonder About Locations Where Show Is Shot

While there are plenty of people who have fallen in love with Montana because of the setting, there’s a bit of a catch. That’s not actually Montana you’re looking at every week.

At least, not all the time.

According to Marshall Moore – Vice President of Operations and Marketing at the Utah Film Studios – over half of the show’s first three seasons were filmed in his state.

Shots of various Utah towns are featured in the program, including Heber City, Oakley, Kamas, Grantsville, and Logan.

That’s not to say that Sheridan isn’t finding ways to make sure that some of Montana isn’t in there. It turns out that most of the most recent season was shot in the state where the series is set.

It appears that the people who are in charge of finding locations for these scenes deserve a raise as it’s quite hard to figure out just where everyone is at any given time.

It’s also not clear why most of Seasons 1-3 were shot outside the state, while Season 4 moved into Montana. Perhaps the people behind Yellowstone didn’t want to feel as if they were lying about that particular detail to the audience.

Ranchin’ Aint Easy

While fans of the show might know where it’s supposed to be set, they may not realize why it’s named what it is. After all, the last name of the characters is Dutton. So why is the place they own and operate named Yellowstone?

It turns out that’s a nod to its location. The Dutton ranch is supposed to be butting right up against the national park.

There have been subtle reminders of that throughout the series. On occasion, viewers will hear mention of going “to the park.”

They aren’t talking about riding a merry-go-round.

Now that Season 4 is complete, the biggest questions surrounding the show are all about when and if Season 5 is happening.

Should it arrive, Yellowstone fans will get to see more of its beautiful scenery, no matter where it’s filmed.
