With the news of Nemesis season 2 likely rounding out the high-profile renewals for the first half of 2026, let’s take a look at some of the biggest Netflix shows currently awaiting their fate.
Firstly, Wikipedia lists two shows from earlier this year as pending while they were being marketed, and we’ve confirmed that they are limited series: Something Very Bad is Going to Happen and Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials, so definitely don’t expect more of those. Likewise, the British series Legends is also very much expected to be a one-and-done situation, although we could see the format working well in an anthology format there, or even with Netflix working with Neil Forsyth again.
As always, when it comes to Netflix series, when there’s no news for a prolonged period of time, that never spells good things for the future of the show. We will feature some of the lingering shows in limbo from 2025 (and a couple from 2024), but frankly, anything that’s still in limbo from the early 2020s (Bodkin, Neon, Chad and JT Go Deep, God’s Favorite Idiot, The Last Bus, Saturday Morning All Star Hits!, Tokyo Override, Cabinet of Curiosities, and countless more) is more than likely done except in rare circumstances.
To Netflix’s credit, they’ve been pretty good at renewing shows in recent years, or alerting the trades/creators to when they’re not and canceling them soon, meaning that there’s not, at least on the English side, tons of shows awaiting renewal and in permanent limbo.
Note: All of the below is guesswork based on what’s been reported in prior years and using viewership data. Any show where we do have underlying knowledge about its future we haven’t included.
Sweet Magnolias (Season 6)
Our Prediction: Final Season Or Wrap-Up If Not Outright Cancelation
For the past few seasons, Sweet Magnolias’ renewal has never come as a huge surprise, as the writers’ room has always been open to continuing. That wasn’t the case with season 6, as reported and hammered home by Deadline numerous times, and was purely reliant on the numbers, which were OK at best. In fact, while the series has been good at having low decay, the drop between season 5 and season 6 was the most pronounced yet. The series has never pulled in the same viewership as Virgin River, but it has its dedicated fans. Given all that’s been said, we suspect if Netflix does pull the trigger, and we sincerely hope they do, it’ll be in the form of a wrap-up of some description whether that’s a final season (perhaps with a reduced episode count) or movie. That said, season 5 does end in a somewhat satisfactory fashion, so at least there’s that if it does get canned.
XO, Kitty (Season 4)
Our Renewal Prediction: Likely Renewal
XO, Kitty. (L to R) Sang Heon Lee as Min Ho Moon, Sule Thelwell as Marius, Anna Cathcart as Kitty Song Covey, Minyeong Choi as Dae Heon Kim, Anthony Keyvan as Quincy ‘Q’ Shabazian, Gia Kim as Yuri Han, Joshua Hyunho Lee as Jin, Hojo Shin as Jiwon in episode 30 of XO, Kitty. The other big Netflix series awaiting renewal that’s not in its debut season is XO, Kitty, which is a bit of a headscratcher. We say that because the show has a dedicated audience who keeps returning each season, and while there’s no doubt some viewership decay, it’s not as pronounced as some other Netflix shows. We suspect the big thing holding this renewal back is just the logistics of filming it and perhaps some of the behind-the-scenes shuffling we saw for season 3.
Man on Fire (Season 2)
Our Renewal Prediction: 50/50

Showrunner Kyle Killen’s seven-episode adaptation of A.J. Quinnell’s thriller novel was billed as one of the major heavy hitters for Netflix’s spring 2026 slate. Premiering at the end of April, it featured stellar talent with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II stepping into the shoes of John Creasy, following Denzel Washington’s iconic 2004 portrayal.
While the viewership was certainly decent upon debut and earned generally positive praise from critics, it didn’t immediately smash through the stratosphere the way a political or espionage thriller like The Night Agent did.
Given its presumed high production costs and the fact that it took a darker, more somber tone than standard popcorn-action fare, Netflix is likely weighing the completion rate and week-to-week decay heavily. We wouldn’t be shocked if it’s a one-and-done, but a second outing isn’t totally off the table yet.
Unchosen
Our Renewal Prediction: Pending (But Likely A Limited Series)

When this Julie Gearey-created British psychological thriller dropped on April 21, it absolutely skyrocketed up the charts, hitting number one in nearly 70 countries globally. Starring Molly Windsor, Asa Butterfield, and Fra Fee, the 6-part series about a sheltered woman trapped in a secretive religious sect was an undeniable viral hit.
The reason its renewal status is tricky is that it was largely developed and billed as a self-contained limited series. However, we all know Netflix has a habit of turning major limited series hits (think The Watcher or Monster) into ongoing anthologies or extending the story if the viewership is simply too massive to ignore. Expect it to remain a limited series on paper for now, but don’t count out a surprise renewal down the line.
Beef (Season 3)
Our Renewal Prediction: On Hiatus While Creator Works On Something New
Cr. Courtesy of Netflix © 2026
Following the massive critical and commercial success of its first run, Lee Sung Jin completely reinvented Beef for season 2. Swapping Steven Yeun and Ali Wong for a star-studded cast including Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny, the April 2026 release served up another brilliant, anxiety-inducing commentary on wealth and grudges.
So, will we get a season 3? The showrunner has stated that he’s perfectly happy leaving it here but is always open if the universe “shoves something else in my face”. In the short term, Lee has expressed a desire to step back and is currently busy prepping to write and direct a new film with Steven Yeun. Considering the three-year gap between the first two installments, it’s safe to assume this anthology will be on ice until 2028 or 2029 at the earliest but our best guess is that we get something new and fresh.
Love, Death and Robots (Volume 5)
Our Renewal Prediction: On Ice But Will Return Eventually
Moving into animation, one of the biggest shows in limbo on this front right now is Love, Death and Robots, and given the extreme length of getting these animated shorts from multiple studios together, it often takes years. We’ve heard nothing since the most recent season of 10 episodes landed in May 2025, and we strongly suspect the series is on ice until a new season comes together creatively or someone steps in to bring it back. It’s no secret that season 4 wasn’t exactly beloved, and viewership followed suit. Much like Black Mirror, which comes back when Charlie Brooker and co. have new ideas, we suspect a similar story here.
No Good Deed
Our Renewal Prediction: Canceled / On Permanent Hiatus
When you put Liz Feldman (the brilliant mind behind Dead to Me) in the driver’s seat and assemble an absolute powerhouse ensemble cast consisting of Lisa Kudrow, Ray Romano, Linda Cardellini, Luke Wilson, and Teyonah Parris, you expect a runaway smash. Unfortunately, the real-estate dark comedy didn’t quite set the world on fire.
Following its December 2024 debut, it managed to hang around the global Top 10 for about four weeks, peaking at just 6 million views—a relatively soft number considering the hefty price tag that comes with a star-studded cast. Back in July 2025, it was widely reported by the trades that the series was placed on an “indefinite pause” alongside a few other outright cancellations. While the door was technically left ajar for it to return as an anthology with a brand-new cast and a new house, the fact that we’ve heard absolute crickets for a whole year now means you can safely move this one from the “limbo” pile straight into the Netflix graveyard.
How to Get to Heaven from Belfast (Season 2)
Our Renewal Prediction: Leaning Cancelation
How To Get To Heaven From Belfast Season 1. Caoilfhionn Dunne as Dara Friel, Roisin Gallagher as Saoirse Shaw, Sinead Keenan as Robyn Winters Cr. Christopher Barr/Netflix
If there’s one show from early 2026 that we’re keeping all our fingers and toes crossed for, it’s Lisa McGee’s brilliant follow-up to Derry Girls. How to Get to Heaven from Belfast touched down on Netflix in mid-February to rave reviews (sitting comfortably at over 90% on Rotten Tomatoes) and quickly managed to knock some heavy hitters off the top of the global charts.
As those who binged the 8-part comedy thriller will know, the finale certainly left the door wide open for another chaotic Irish road trip, culminating in a tantalizing cliffhanger involving a certain pink bag. McGee herself has publicly stated she purposefully left things open for a second season but acknowledged that it’s entirely up to the audience turnout. It never took to the charts in any meaningful way, and we suspect we won’t see a return of any description.
Other English Language Series Awaiting Renewals
OK, that’s some of the big ones, but there are plenty more shows in limbo. Here are a few other notable English-language series whose fates remain up in the air:
- Bad Thoughts (Season 3) – Tom Segura’s dark comedy series was never a ratings dynamo, but, like most other shows of this nature, it seems to get renewed without requiring massive viewership. Given the relatively low production costs, we’re predicting a renewal here.
- Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld (Season 2) – We recently covered this in-depth, but given that animation titles generally have a short window to secure a renewal due to their incredibly long production pipelines, it’s highly expected that this one will not be back.
- Pokémon Concierge (Season 2) – While Netflix has a very healthy relationship with the Pokémon brand and has other projects in the works, we’re not expecting this delightful stop-motion edition to come back right now. The silence has simply been too long.
- Son of a Donkey (Season 2) – This Aussie comedy struggled to break out globally, which isn’t wholly unsurprising for regional comedies, but it unfortunately even struggled to make a major dent in Australia. We are not expecting a renewal.
A number of kids’ series are also in limbo, with many not expected to continue beyond their initial upfront episode orders:
- Dog Days Out (Season 2)
- Hot Wheels Let’s Race (Season 4)
- Mighty MonsterWheelies (Season 3)
- Wonderoos (Season 3)
Unscripted & Reality Series Awaiting Renewals
Switching gears to unscripted, specifically reality, the rules for renewals are often completely different. Shows are frequently filmed back-to-back or quietly renewed behind the scenes to keep production costs down. Still, these are the major titles currently lacking official confirmation for their next outings:
- All the Sharks (Season 2)
- Blue Therapy (Season 2)
- Hitmakers (Season 2)
- Inside: USA (Season 2)
- Next Gen Chef (Season 2)
- Owning Manhattan (Season 3)
- Perfect Match (Season 5)
- Selling Sunset (Season 10)
- Selling the OC (Season 5)
Non-English Series Awaiting Renewals / Cancellations
Finally, we come to the international slate. Netflix’s global output is massive, and as a result, the list of shows sitting in limbo from overseas is always quite lengthy. Here’s a breakdown of the major non-English shows still waiting for a thumbs up or thumbs down, sorted by language and region and a reminder, these are all just from the past year, we could’ve kept going!
