Big Sky Review – Dead Man’s Float (2×14)

The sky is the limit when it comes to the Montana craziness on Big Sky

Just when you think you’ve seen it all, the writers flip the script on you and leave you grasping for answers.

One overarching storyline, however, came to a close with the demise of Ronald Pergman.

While it’s TV rule #1 never to assume a character is dead without any proof, he definitely seemed lifeless after Cassie stuck the hook in him.

Rightfully so, too. Contrary to what Ronald likes to believe, he was not a very good boy. And he could’ve died at several turns throughout the episode.

Wolf could’ve (and should’ve) shot him. It will forever remain a pet peeve when the writers take too long for a character to do something only so they will miss their chance.

Lindor could’ve (and should’ve) shot him, but it seems he and Cassie weren’t on the same page about what they were trying to accomplish when they finally found Ronald. All I’m saying is both Wolf and Lindor had a free shot to “put the beast down,” yet they argued between each other and ended up shooting each other. How silly.

Ronald spared them both, and honestly, I was surprised he didn’t try to end Wolf after everything he put him through, however, Ronald’s survival made sense because his demise had to come at the hands of Cassie.

Cassie deserved that kill after everything Ronald has done to her. He’s made her life a living hell and hurt all of the people she loves, including her dad.

Cassie didn’t think twice about sparing Ronald because he didn’t deserve it.

But Scarlet? That’s a different story. Cassie and Lindor never had a chance to check if she was still alive after Dr. Cowley stabbed her, though she definitely looked dead.

My guess is that it wasn’t a lethal dose since you know, doctors are all about that “do no harm” vow.

Sadly, harm was done to Cowley even after he went above and beyond to save Ronald. Honestly, I always feel really bad about the people that die on this show simply for being at the wrong place at the wrong time.

In previews, we see Jenny telling Cassie that Scarlet and Phoebe somehow escaped, which Cassie deems is impossible. Clearly, she’s still in denial about how determined Scarlet and Ronald have always been.

Also, can we seriously talk about how messed up this whole situation is for Phoebe? She’s trying to be “brave,” but that girl’s gut knows something is really, really off about her mom and Ronald. I love how they both became completely different people whenever Phoebe came into the room, though, despite those attempts, the con was falling apart quickly.

I’m surprised Phoebe hasn’t turned on them already, but it speaks to the love a child has for their mother.

Jenny and Cassie were both on a giant goose hunt, with the former trying to track down the whereabouts of Rachel and Max, who were kidnapped because of T-Lock’s greed.

Jenny had no choice but to team up with T-Lock, and well, it’s not like anyone really anticipated that this would go well.

The kidnapper immediately knew that T-Lock was wearing a wire, so the plan went south rather quickly.

T-Lock wasn’t entirely disappointing in the process as he finally manned up to fix his mistakes and find his family.

Unfortunately, T-Lock underestimated the kidnapper and overestimated himself. When he shot him, he turned his back to look for his family, which is when the kidnapper — clad in a bullet proof vest — got up and hit him with a fatal shot.

Jenny and Travis arrived on the scene just in time for T-Lock to utter his final words: an apology to Rachel.

T-Lock was one of the most hated characters this season, but he truly redeemed himself when it mattered most. Too bad this his stupid mistake cost him his life.

Jenny wasn’t able to save T-Lock, nab the kidnapper, or get the money, but the last part was only because Travis stole it and lied about it.

I’ve been Team Travis this whole time, but there have been some questionable moments when it comes to his behavior… this being the biggest red flag.

Still, I don’t think Travis is somehow playing both teams — the cartel and the FBI — but I do think he’s going to try to use that recovered money to weasel his way into further loyalty with the Bhar family so that he can finally get his revenge.

Truthfully, if he just ran his plan by Jenny, I think she’d likely be on board with it. There’s absolutely no reason to lie about it and break her trust!

Speaking of the Bar family, they’re still completely absolved of any wrongdoing for now, but their family drama is getting the best of them at the moment.

Ren and Jag both picked up on their father’s odd behavior, including his idea to sell the family home in Canada and open up shop in Montana as Jag (really Ren) suggested.

Of course, at the first sign of trouble, both Jag and Ren begin to look into Alicia, their father’s soulmate of fourth months.

They don’t trust her out of feae that she will inherit a family share and have a say in the family business.

Ren’s intuition was right as something is wrong with her father, though it’s not clear what exactly. My guess is that he’s terminally ill — hence the “health comment” — which explains why he wants to spend all his time with him family and has begun picking up yoga.

However, how does Alicia fit into it? Will she take over the family business? Is she just here for moral support? When we first met her, she gave off a very ditzy impression, but now I’m thinking that’s more of a charade to throw Ren and Jag off. She’s lying about something, and I hope they’ll figure it out sooner rather than later.

Later obviously being when Jenny and her cops crash the party and arrest everyone.

What did you think of the episode? Were you impressed with all the shocking developments? Are you happy the Ronald Pergman chapter is finally closed or do you wish he somehow got his 9th live and got away?

And was it satisfactory revenge for Cassie?
