Paris Is Always a Good Idea Season 1 Episode 6 Review: Chelsea Finally Got the Love Story She Deserved

Paris is Always a Good Idea was a delightful limited series.

It fit perfectly with Hallmark+’s other limited series, highlighting fun romances, international travel, and family drama.

The show explored all of Chelsea Martin’s past and current romantic options before everything came to a head in the finale.

Through its non-linear storytelling, Chelsea contemplates her losses and loves one final time before making the biggest decision of her life.

While the entire series has showcased Lacey Chabert’s acting skills, Paris Is Always a Good Idea Season 1 Episode 6 highlighted her best work yet, showing how Chelsea had grown personally and in her relationships.

Chelsea has matured the most since the series began, but the finale also showed how Annabelle and others were finally able to take another chance on love.

Love Means Sacrifice Even When It Hurts

“Knightly, Revisited,” jumped around a lot, but it was important that Chelsea explain that losing her mom shaped her.

Chelsea could never learn by being told something. She thrived by learning through experience, and falling in love wasn’t something her mom could put into words.

She wanted Chelsea to experience love and life, and that’s why she sent her to Europe even after her cancer was diagnosed. Chelsea was never supposed to learn, but her dad slipped during his grief and frustration.

Cancer is that burden we all wish we could carry instead. Glenn wished it was him dying. Chelsea wanted more time with her mother.

But Christine Martin tried to spare her daughter, which is why she wanted them to return to Paris and experience the parts she loved.

It wasn’t until Chelsea fell in love that she understood that sacrifice.

Everyone Was Rooting for Chelsea and Knightly

It’s always amusing watching a couple who thinks the other half has moved on when everyone else can tell both partners still are crazy about one another.

That described Chelsea and Knightly to a tee. It didn’t help that Annabelle assumed that Knightly was dating someone new, and it was his sister coming to cheer their youngest sister on.

Knightly made things worse by wanting details on Chelsea, then backtracking and assuming she now lived the perfect life.

It was obvious that his siblings and Annabelle wanted them to communicate and stop assuming things.

I liked that Marcos also pushed for Chelsea to be honest. They weren’t anything but old friends and colleagues now. He appreciated that Knightly sent her back to get closure, and he wanted to return the favor.

He saw how unhappy she seemed and thought she owed it to herself. Chelsea took the easy way by arranging a donation for the AAC.

I assumed she would do that to save the company, but she counted on Knightly meeting her, not Aiden.

Even he knew she and Knightly always had sparks, and he thought he deserved to know why she really left. While it was noble, no one likes to be lied to.

Chelsea’s Love Life Was a Mix Tape

Planning her dad’s wedding taught Chelsea so much about love, and it was almost like a Kelly Clarkson and Taylor Swift mix tape.

I love karaoke. I’m an enthusiastic if mediocre singer, and hosting that kind of bachelorette party looked like so much fun.

Sisters can be mean. Annabelle probably thought it would be therapeutic for Chelsea to belt out “Since You’ve Been Gone,” and Chelsea rocked it. It was entertaining, but she broke down after saying how much she missed Knightly.

Annabelle hit the spot when she said Chelsea’s theme song should have been “My Life Would Suck Without You.”  They were both miserable and stubborn, and one of them needed to bend.

Chelsea always craved the perfect love story like her parents, and she never understood why her mom never explained why she picked her father over the train.

Now she finally knew why her mom sent her to Europe even when she was sick. Real love means you think of the other person first. Knightly was Chelsea’s love story, and now she had to jump to prove it to him.

The Paris is Always a Good Idea Finale Highlighted Second Chances

Chelsea learned so much from knowing Knightly and watching her dad fall in love again. When her dad seemed nervous, she comforted him, telling him that she knew he loved Sherrie.

She admired that he wasn’t afraid to fall in love again even after losses and wished she could be that brave.

It was one of the most emotional conversations they shared, and it was the turning point for Chelsea. Lacey Chabert truly delivered in that scene.

She knew she couldn’t back out now.

Glenn and Sherrie’s wedding was beautiful. He got his second chance at happiness with his daughters by his side. 

Chelsea finally took her leap of faith, sending Knightly a 15-minute recording of why they should be together.

I loved that he was already in the garden when she sent it, meaning he missed her terribly, too.

It was so typical of their relationship for her to say it was a pitch of why they should be together. They really do make a great team.

I wish we could have seen more of them together in the finale, except for their reconciliation scenes.

That make-up scene was so sweet. They must have been so starved for kisses after a year. They couldn’t even really make out since Chelsea had to do bridesmaid duties.

Paris is Always a Good Idea has also shown the importance of giving the Martin family another chance.

Chelsea is much closer to her dad and sister, and she appreciated that Sherrie honored her mom in that wedding speech.

It’s such a fine line for a new wife and stepmom when there are adult children, but I think they’ll thrive and grow together.

Could There Be a Sequel With That Ending?

Jenn McKinlay has written a book about Annabelle. The finale screamed open-ended.

We need more to see whether she ever hears from her ex-fiancé, Rhyland Reece, or starts dating Marcos. I’d vote for Marcos. They’re both a bit odd, and he’s a huge flirt and could help her self-esteem.

The family already likes him, but I want to see this relationship play out, especially since Annabelle finally started thinking of herself again by coaching soccer. She’s not ready to relocate to Spain.

It would also be entertaining to check in with Chelsea and Knightly and see how their relationship progresses, including where they’ll live.
