Matt Gutman recently joined CBS News, following years working at ABC News. However, allegations have been made concerning Gutman during his time at the previous network. Gutman also wasn’t the only defendant listed in the complaint.
Matt Gutman Had Reported For Good Morning America & 20/20 Before Joining CBS News Back In January
As a journalist, Gutman was known for spending nearly 20 years at ABC News. During this time, he reported for programs including Good Morning America, 20/20, and World News Tonight.
Earlier this year, Gutman joined CBS News. He has since reported for 48 Hours and contributed to 60 Minutes. He has also recently served as a fill-in anchor on CBS Evening News.
Recently, Gutman was named in a newly filed wrongful termination lawsuit. The complaint alleged that he made inappropriate, “sexualized” comments to a former female colleague while working at ABC News.
According to People, the complaint was filed by former ABC News employee Samira Said. This suit has been filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. Gutman is listed as a defendant, along with ABC, Disney, and ABC News bureau chief David Herndon.
According to the complaint, Said claims that she was wrongfully terminated after being denied medical leave on multiple occasions. She had worked as a field producer in ABC News’ L.A. bureau from 2021 to 2025.
Said also claimed that Gutman was her supervisor during this time. She alleged that he helped contribute to a “hostile” work environment. It is further alleged that she endured sex and gender-related harassment on multiple occasions.
Said Also Made Claims That The Network Didn’t Accommodate Her Health Needs Before She Was Terminated
Said also claimed that she was once placed on a male-only team otherwise made up of Gutman and two other crew members. While waiting in a public line while on assignment, Gutman “initiated a discussion rating a female correspondent’s appearance and reducing her professional standing to a numerical score based on her physical attributes,” according to the complaint.
The complaint further claimed that the other men joined in and “[continued] to assess the woman’s body and looks in Said’s presence.” Said was then asked for her opinion, but she declined. She also described another occasion, in which she and Gutman debated leaving a work site during a press day for a movie release.
Gutman is alleged to have responded, in front of their co-workers, by “making a sexualized insinuation that Said must have an after-hours date in the city and that this is why she did not want to relocate.” The complaint claimed that doing so “demeaned Said and reduced her professional judgment to a sexualized stereotype.”
These allegations are part of a larger lawsuit in which Said described discrimination and retaliation, claiming that her health needs went unaccommodated before her employment was terminated. At this time, Gutman and CBS have not responded to the allegations.
