Deli Boys has been canceled after two seasons at Hulu, marking the end of an era for the Onyx Collective comedy, which revolved around the Dar family criminal empire, DarCo.
After toppling crooked casino owner Max Sugar (Fred Armisen) and turning the spoils for themselves to enrich their underground drug business, just as Mir (Asif Ali), Raj (Saagar Shaikh), and Lucky (Poorna Jagannathan) settled into their apparent success, a pie delivery raised alarm bells and hinted where the story would head if the series had continued onto Season 3.
While we won’t get a chance to see it unfold, the stars did get candid about where things might lead if Deli Boys carried on, particularly when it came to the Season 2 finale reveal hinting at the arrival of more Dar family members. The poisoned pie, consumed by DarCo’s most loyal right-hand man, Matthew (Jake Prizant), had a note that claimed the “eldest Dar” was coming for a piece of their pie.

As fans learned in Season 1, Mir and Raj were raised by their father, who left the business in their hands when he was killed, but having not grown up in his criminal world, the comedy tracked their journey from upstanding citizens into criminal kingpins. Without knowing who the “eldest Dar” would be, theories could run wild, but Jagannathan hinted it might not have been who fans anticipated.
“In a previous draft, the cliffhanger was all three of them come into the apartment, and there’s the sound of cooking, and they’re like, who’s cooking my favorite thing? And it’s the mother,” Jagannathan revealed. Fans never met Mir and Raj’s mother, as they’ve been guided by Lucky Aunty.
That storyline was seemingly scrapped, but the stars admitted they didn’t know who the “eldest Dar” was after Season 2 had wrapped, but noted that within the story, Lucky Aunty definitely does. “It’s the implication that it could be a whole other family,” Jagannathan added.
“It could be an older brother. It could be an older sister. They could be in America. They could be in Pakistan. We just don’t know,” Shaikh added.
“She knows something,” Jagannathan acknowledged. In other words, Season 3 could have taken viewers outside of Philly to a whole new different backdrop in Pakistan or beyond.
For now, we’ll mourn the loss of this series as we long for what could have been. Would you have wanted to see the DarCo team take on a new threat in a third season? Let us know in the comments section and catch the first two seasons of the series anytime on Hulu.
