The back-to-school season has officially begun across the country, including for Erin and Ben Napier‘s homeschooled children.
Erin marked the end of summer by sharing several sweet photos of the couple’s kids, Helen and Mae, on Instagram on Thursday, August 13. “August weather is gonna try to kill us next week so let’s look at the pleasanter moments shall we?” she wrote. “School in a barn, supersonic sissies, August birthdays at work, I CAN BRAID!!!! Picnic read aloud, Etc.”
The post’s first slide featured a fun photo of one of Napier’s daughters reading with their dog by her side, followed by a photo of her seemingly working on a school assignment at her desk. Other uploads included pics of the girls’ schoolwork and drawings, the results of Erin French braiding their hair, Helen and Mae cuddling on the couch, and the kids enjoying a backyard picnic with their parents.
Fans gushed in the post’s comments about how much Erin and Ben’s kids have grown, with one user writing, “Wasn’t Ben just making Helen’s crib??” Another added, “I just love this. It’s so nice to see how much ya’ll enjoy life. It gives me hope and happiness for all of us. Thanks for just being amazing and kind people.”
Someone else asked, “You make your kids school in the summer????” Erin replied, “Nothing else to do when it’s this hot so we all decided to get started and give ourselves some free days when it’s finally crispy and beautiful outside!”
A different person posted, “Congrats on learning to braid!! I loved her bucket list!! Fantastic!!! Cozy, comfy blankets are lovely!!! Enjoy those sweeties!! Reading is the number 1 choice of all 6 of our grandkids, I’m proud to say!! We pass along reading lists & authors & series! It so pleases us !!!!” A separate commenter stated, “That second to last picture where Ben is reading and ya’ll are just together is the perfect picture of the good life!”
In addition to starting the school year, Erin and Ben are currently in production for Season 11 of HGTV‘s Home Town. In an August 1 Instagram video, Erin shared insight into how the couple fit schooling in during a day of filming.”
“8 am Easing back into school with rapid fire multiplication facts,” Erin wrote alongside a snap of one of her daughters completing times tables on a dry-erase board. “8×4 is harder to remember than all the others.”
Earlier this summer, Erin got emotional via Instagram while reflecting on Mae’s upcoming school milestone. “Mae is about to start kindergarten,” she captioned the July 23 post. “The night before Helen went to kindergarten, I drove to the store after she was in bed to get bacon for her special breakfast the next day. I turned on the song we listened to coming home from the hospital when she was born and cried so hard I couldn’t catch my breath, feeling her babyhood ending with such finality. I called my mama who laughed, because she didn’t have any memory of my first day of kindergarten.”
She continued, “The great upside to homeschooling is I don’t have that feeling at all this time. We bought her school supplies and she was giddy putting those Ticonderogas and a 3 ring binder in the buggy. I’ll be there when she reads a sentence for the first time and she’s so excited to read a book on her own soon. We’ve figured out how to slow down the clock and savor these little years.”
