Jenny Marrs is looking back at her family’s summer memories as her and Dave Marrs‘ kids head back to school.
Last week, Dave shared a rare photo of all five of the couple’s kids — Nathan, Ben, Sylvie, Charlotte, and Luke — on their first day of school. Now one week into the school year, Jenny reflected on the group’s jam-packed summer in a Wednesday, August 19, Instagram post.
“This past summer was FULL. We continued work on 10 renovation projects for the show, one in Italy for fun, and we squeezed in two once-in-a-lifetime family trips with grandparents,” she wrote, adding that she and Dave are prepping for their “St Jude 24-hour renovation this coming weekend.”
Jenny went on to praise her “trusty” sneakers from Taos, stating, “I once framed Luke’s shoes from our summer adventures after he outgrew them and they’re now framed and hanging on his bedroom wall. I can’t help myself – I get nostalgic over shoes. There’s just something about a good pair and the memories we have quite literally walked through together.”
Among the post’s slides were photos and clips from Jenny and Dave’s Fixer to Fabulous Season 8 renovation projects and several snaps from the family’s summer trips to France and Alaska.
Fans reacted to Jenny’s sentimental summer post in the comments, with one user writing, “It’s going to be [fire] this year!!! I love how you see God’s blessings in everything. Thank you for all that you do.” Another added, “Looks like such a memorable summer for all.” Someone else shared, “Can’t wait to see the new season! The St Jude episodes are my favorite every year!”
She also teased when Fixer to Fabulous will return on HGTV. “When are you guys coming back with some new episodes????” one commenter asked. She responded, “They should air this fall. We don’t have an air date yet (we are still working on the renovations!) but I’ll announce the date as soon as I have it!”
Jenny followed up by sharing her latest summer memories with a blast from summers past. In a Thursday, August 20, Instagram post, Jenny shared an old photo of herself FaceTiming with her daughter Sylvie, whom they adopted from the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2013. (A government shutdown prevented them from bringing Sylvie home to the U.S. until the following year.)
“Yesterday, my phone reminded me of our time preparing to visit Sylvie in the Congo 13 years ago,” Jenny wrote. “Back then, we would FaceTime her as often as cell service allowed and each time was a miraculous gift. She’s alive! She’s looking healthy! We’re coming baby girl!”
The post also featured an adorable video of a young Nathan and Ben pointing to Sylvie’s location on a map. “It was an emotional, wonderful, sweet, unimaginably hard time,” Jenny recalled. “My heart lived on two continents and my prayers were desperate. The situation seemed impossible at times. Would she ever be allowed to come home? Would the government ever lift the ban keeping us apart?”
She concluded the post by writing, “I share this as a reminder for whomever is in a situation this morning that feels hopeless. Even when we don’t know the outcome, we know the One who does. And, He is trustworthy. I pray this encourages you this morning, friends.”
