The glitz and glamour of Hollywood has been showcased in movies and television shows for over a hundred years. Los Angeles has been the filming location for most of the shows we see on television. But that’s rapidly changing. California is one of the most expensive states to live in. Now, the higher costs are affecting television studios.
Several popular reality shows announced recently that they are fleeing Los Angeles for states with cheaper production costs. American Idol filmed parts of Season 24 in Nashville, Tennessee. After filming in Los Angeles since 2002, the reality competition is moving production to Atlanta, Georgia, for Season 25.
ABC’s Shark Tank is also ditching Los Angeles for Atlanta for Season 18. But Georgia isn’t the only state with lower production costs. The Masked Singer is relocating production to New Jersey for Season 15. Now, Jimmy Kimmel has announced the relocation of his late-night talk show.
Jimmy Kimmel Moving Talk Show Out Of L.A. Amid Retirement Rumors
Jimmy Kimmel Live! has filmed in Los Angeles since 2003. The talk show host announced a surprise relocation earlier this week. The ABC late-night talk show is moving to Brooklyn, New York, for a week of special episodes. It’s not the first time Jimmy Kimmel has invaded Brooklyn.
Jimmy Kimmel Live! took over Brooklyn in 2012, 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, and 2025. This year’s Brooklyn Week has a star-studded lineup that includes one of the most talked-about politicians. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani makes his debut as a late-night show guest. He made a surprise cameo on Jimmy Fallon’s show in early 2026 but didn’t sit for an interview.
Brooklyn Weeks airs from September 28 through October 2. Other guests include Mahershala Ali, Billy Crystal, Pete Davidson, Robby Hoffman, Paul McCartney, and Howard Stern. The U.S. Sun reports that De La Soul, Goose, TV On the Radio, and Bruce Springsteen & Tom Morello are the week’s musical guests.
