On Thursday, August 20, The Young and the Restless is bringing three longtime Genoa City favorites together for a girls’ night filled with cocktails, memories, and a little nostalgia.
Nina Webster (Tricia Cast) returns for the special episode in which Christine Blair Romalotti (Lauralee Bell) surprises Traci Abbott (Beth Maitland) with a visit from Nina. The trio heads to The Shadow Room, where they’re tasked with sampling new cocktails at the request of Christine’s husband, Danny Romalotti (Michael Damian), the nightclub’s new co-owner.
“Sally McDonald, our executive producer, came up with the idea for this girls’ night out episode, and it really reflects that she’s worked with all of us for so many years,” says Bell.
It’s a decidedly more playful outing, filled with plenty of laughs and references that longtime viewers will immediately recognize. For Bell, the opportunity to revisit the past while having some fun with her friends was just as enjoyable to film as it should be for the audience to watch. “There’s been some heavy stuff lately, so I hope that this is a little bit of lightness that they need,” she says.

Bell was especially thrilled when she heard Cast would be returning as Nina — and that Maitland would be along for the ride.
“Trish has been excited to come back at any time,” Bell points out. “She’s made it known that she’s available. I was told she was coming back right before I got the script, so I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh. These are going to be so much fun.’ And Beth was especially elated because you’ll never see Beth pick up her script and see that her task for the day is trying out a cocktail menu at a bar. That is not Traci’s normal rundown for the scenes, so that was super fun. She gets there, and she’s like, ‘What am I doing here?’ And Christine says, ‘Danny wants us to try all the new cocktails.’ And we sit in a booth like you would do with a couple of friends and get tipsy.”
Bringing these three characters together naturally opens the door to familiar stories and moments from Y&R’s past. “We talk about the old concerts,” Bell previews. “We talk about Nina losing Chance [Chancellor, her son who died in July 2025], and she says she’s interested in some new guy. And they go through all these different drinks, and Traci flirts with the bartender for the night. It’s so summertime and so girly, and if you know the show, you can visualize what we talk about, so the audience will feel like they’re in on it because they’ll know everything we’re referring to.”
The experience was further amplified by the fact that Bell, Cast, and Maitland have long-standing friendships that extend beyond the screen. “Trish and I obviously have a forever connection,” Bell notes. “And Trish is always amazing. She hasn’t worked since Danny and Cricket’s wedding [in November 2025], but she just, without one bit of hesitation, popped in as Nina and gave a hundred percent, and it was so effortless. Beth and I have an extremely close connection as well, but doing scenes like this, we kind of reconnected. And then afterward, Beth was like, ‘This felt so good. This felt so real, and this felt so like classic Y&R.’ We gave each other a little extra hug and then all of us texted each other after and said, ‘Wow, that was quite a day.’ We just had a very full day, and it was a lot of fun.”

That sense of history is especially meaningful for Bell, whose connection to Y&R goes far beyond playing Christine. She first appeared on the soap in July 1983, but she had been part of its world long before stepping in front of the cameras. She grew up watching her parents, William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell, build the show they co-created into one of daytime’s most enduring institutions. As the years pass, Bell says she has gained an even greater appreciation for what her parents accomplished.
“As you get older, you just become so much more in awe of your parents on the whole, not only as mom and dad, but also as people,” she reflects. “I appreciate my parents more because of all they juggled as mom and dad, but also as creators of the show and keeping our lives so normal for all they did on a schedule that didn’t allow for a hiatus. We very rarely saw them frazzled or overwhelmed, and that was such a gift.
“For my dad, this was a magic that he had,” she continues. “It’s not easy to weave a cast this big in and out and make it emotional and happy and sad and scary. So, to think that I was a product of that genius, and my mom being equally genius in her way, I’m very grateful. In the past, I would sometimes shy away from that. I own it now very proudly.”
Bell has spent more than four decades as part of the show her parents created, giving her a unique perspective on its enduring place in viewers’ lives.
“I think the world needs some guarantees, and it’s nice to hear that theme song as something constant in your week,” Bell says. “And we’ll be here as long as you’ll have us.”
