Wheel of Fortune fans still desperately miss Pat Sajak. He retired as host in 2024 and was replaced by Ryan Seacrest. The former host, 79, made a rare public appearance for a special event. Keep reading to find out what drew him out of retirement.
Pat Sajak Steps Out In Rare Appearance Since Retirement
Pat Sajak hosted his last episode of Wheel of Fortune in 2024. He stayed on for one more season of the Celebrity addition of the show. While he left his on-camera role, he still has a consulting gig with the game show for a few more years. Despite his retirement, he hasn’t retreated completely from the public eye.

Pat Sajak often makes appearances on his daughter Maggie’s TikTok account. She posts humorous videos that show another side that viewers never saw. The former Wheel of Fortune host stepped out in Hollywood earlier this week for a rare public appearance. What drew him out?
A Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. Pat Sajak earned his star on the iconic sidewalk in 1994. He returned in 2026 to help welcome an equally iconic soft-rock band to the Walk of Fame. Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock formed Air Supply in 1975. They gave us some of the most romantic ballads, including 1983’s “Making Love Out of Nothing at All.”
What does Pat Sajak have to do with Air Supply? No, he’s not a secret member of the band. He has a more personal connection. He and his wife have been close friends of Graham Russell and Russell Hitchcock for decades. The beloved Wheel of Fortune host gave a speech at the ceremony.

Former Wheel Of Fortune Host Hints At True Reason For Retiring
Pat Sajak revealed his plans to retire in 2023, with Season 41 being his last. He said at the time that he wanted to leave on his own terms. He alluded to a deeper reason for his departure in his speech for Air Supply.
“I do know a little bit about longevity,” Pat Sajak said about the group’s 50-year career. “As was pointed out, I did my little show for over 40 years, and I understand the challenge of trying not to wear out your welcome,”
He continued, “But Graham and Russell have been at this for over 50 years, and they continue to entertain their fans and be welcomed by sold-out crowds all around the world.”
Pat Sajak praised Air Supply for giving it their all at every show for five decades. “They never phone in their performance. They never try to live off their reputation,” he gushed.

Pat Sajak wasn’t the only speaker at the Walk of Fame event. Musician David Foster spoke as well. He co-wrote the group’s 1984 hit “I Can Wait Forever” and 1993’s “Goodbye.”
Pat Sajak lives a quieter life after retiring, but he hasn’t disappeared completely. Do you still miss him or have you accepted Ryan Seacrest as the Wheel of Fortune host? Tell us in the comments.
