Jimmy Kimmel has been on the air since 2003. However, his time may be coming to an end. Now, the president of Disney is speaking out on the status of the show. Keep reading to find out what’s in store for Jimmy and late-night TV.
Jimmy Kimmel On TV
As mentioned above, Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show, Jimmy Kimmel Live! has been on ABC since 2003. This means he’s been doing the show for 23 years as of 2026. Like a lot of late-night shows, Jimmy hosts a variety of guests, including actors, musicians, comedians, and more. Of course, he stays topical, addressing current news and pop culture. In fact, he was suspended for a while in September 2025 because of his comments about a current event.
After making comments about Charlie Kirk, ABC decided to pull his show. However, it didn’t last long. He was back the next week and has been on ever since.
As time goes on, though, people are wondering what the fate will be for shows like Jimmy’s. Now, according to Entertainment Weekly, the president of Disney is actually speaking out on it.
What Does The President Say?
According to Dana Walden, President and Chief Creative Officer for Disney, keeping this show going with its current genre is ‘challenging.’
“It’s a very challenging daypart, late-night,” Dana says.
However, she makes it clear that despite what is going on, Jimmy is doing a great job. Unfortunately, there’s not a large audience for late-night TV.
“That’s not to say that Jimmy is not doing a phenomenal job, and his ratings are up, but they’re up relative to a smaller audience that’s watching late night on broadcast television,” she explains.
However, the network’s relationship with Jimmy might be what’s saving him and his show right now. So, Disney is working hard to figure out a plan that works for both parties, despite the hardships they are facing.
“So we’re trying to make sense of the business while also honoring a deep partnership. I love Jimmy. We have a great friendship. He’s close to a number of the people at Disney, and again, we’re trying to work through it and make sense of both.”
For now, it seems there’s still no official word on the fate of the show. However, it doesn’t seem like Jimmy is totally in the clear either. Only time will tell at this point.
“What does Jimmy want? What’s the right thing to do, and what’s the right thing for our business?”
