Before Saturday Night Live became a launching pad for some of comedy’s biggest stars, Canada had SCTV Network 90, a brilliantly bizarre sketch series that turned a fictional low-budget television station into one of the most influential comedy shows of its era.
Featuring a legendary cast that included John Candy, Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Andrea Martin, Joe Flaherty, Dave Thomas, Rick Moranis, and Martin Short, SCTV specialized in offbeat characters, spot-on celebrity impressions, fake commercials, and parodies of everything from local television to Hollywood movies.
All 135 episodes across six seasons of SCTV will be available to stream on Netflix beginning September 1, 2026. In addition, SCTV: The Greatest Show You’ve Never Heard Of, a new documentary chronicling the history and legacy of the influential sketch comedy series, as well as a long-lost reunion of the original cast, will premiere on October 20, 2026.
With the entire series finally in one place, there’s no better time to revisit some of its most memorable characters and comedy. From Bob and Doug McKenzie to Count Floyd and Ed Grimley, these are some of the essential SCTV sketches every comedy fan should see.
