Just days after making its debut on Netflix US (as we first reported), Fox’s hit medical comedy-drama Best Medicine has rocketed up the Top 10 charts. If you’ve already binged through all of Dr. Martin Best’s quirky Maine adventures, you’re likely wondering when the show will be back for Season 2 and when it’ll eventually drop on Netflix. Here’s everything we know so far.
In case you missed it, Best Medicine is the American adaptation of the beloved, long-running British series Doc Martin. Led by Josh Charles, Abigail Spencer, and Annie Potts, the series follows brilliant but abrasive Boston heart surgeon Martin Best, who suddenly develops a debilitating phobia of blood. Forced to walk away from his prestigious career, he relocates to become a general practitioner in Port Wenn, a quirky coastal Maine fishing village where he spent his childhood summers.
The first season aired on Fox between January and April 2026, and its episodes were added to Netflix on August 4th, 2026. Almost immediately, the show became a massive hit with Netflix subscribers, quickly surging past streaming originals to claim the #3 spot on the daily US Top 10 charts.
Given that massive success, it’s no surprise viewers are already clamoring for more. Will there be a Season 2 of Best Medicine, and when will it be available to stream on Netflix?
Has Best Medicine been renewed for Season 2? When does it air on Fox?
Yes! Fans won’t have to worry about the show being a one-and-done wonder. Because the show was a massive ratings success for Fox—averaging around six million viewers per episode and growing its audience from week to week—the network quickly handed down a Season 2 renewal back in March 2026.
In an even bigger sign of confidence, Fox actually increased the episode order for Season 2, bumping it up from 12 to 14 episodes.
If you have a traditional cable subscription or a digital antenna, you won’t have to wait long at all for new episodes. Best Medicine Season 2 is slated to premiere on Fox on Tuesday, September 22nd, 2026. It will also be available to stream the next day on Hulu.
As for what to expect when the show returns, Season 2 promises a few exciting cast shakeups and expansive plotlines. Stephen Spinella and Jason Veasey, who play fan-favorite husbands Greg and George (the New York transplants who own the local restaurant, The Salty Breeze), have been promoted to series regulars. Additionally, comedy legend Andrea Martin is set to guest star as Judith, a quirky chain-smoking friend of Aunt Sarah’s who is sure to test Dr. Best’s notoriously thin patience.
Narratively, the new season will have to deal with the medical board discovering Martin’s secret hemophobia, as well as the aftermath of his ongoing love triangle cliffhanger with Louisa and Eden.

When will Best Medicine Season 2 be on Netflix?
Like other licensed network titles on Netflix (including fellow Fox medical drama Doc), there is no rock-solid guarantee that Season 2 will come to Netflix. However, given the show’s incredible performance in the Top 10 so far, it is highly likely that Netflix and Fox will continue their licensing arrangement but we have seen numerous shows licensed from Fox only see their first season added and any future ones do not drop.
Assuming Season 2 does eventually come to Netflix, when can we expect it? We can look at the release schedule for the first season to get a pretty good estimate.
The Season 1 finale aired on Fox on April 7, 2026. Exactly four months later, on August 4, 2026, the entire season dropped on Netflix.
If Season 2 premieres on September 22nd with an extended 14-episode run, we can expect the finale to air on Fox sometime around late December 2026 or January 2027 (depending on holiday broadcasting breaks). If we add that exact same four-month window to the finale date, we predict Best Medicine Season 2 will hit Netflix around April or May 2027.
Of course, if you can’t wait until next spring to find out what happens next in Port Wenn, Hulu will be your go-to destination to catch the show this fall.
