Katy Perry just revealed that she is leaving American Idol as a new season is starting. Will Katy be on the new season or how soon will she be gone? Keep reading to get all of the details.

Katy Perry Reveals Plans To Leave

Tonight Katy Perry was on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and while on the show she let some big news slip. She shared saying, “This fall, in September, I’m going to be doing this huge music festival in Brazil called Rock in Rio… so I think this will probably be my last season for Idol.” It is unknown if Katy planned to let this news out on the show tonight or if it just slipped out.

She went on to say, “I mean, I love Idol so much. It’s connected me with the heart of America, but I need to feel that pulse of my own beat.” Katy has been a part of the show since 2018 and so her moving on will be a big change for American Idol. This show has changed judges before, but not since the revival.

How Soon Is Katy Leaving?

Katy will be leaving American Idol, but not until this upcoming Season 22 is over. This means you will see her on the upcoming shows, but don’t expect her back next season. It will be interesting to see who they replace her with on the show.

She is on the show with Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. Katy Perry teased that they would be finding out the news she is leaving tonight as well. It sounds like she hadn’t revealed the plan to them yet. It sounds like a tour is coming possibly along with some new music. Katy Perry fans are excited to see what she ends up doing next.

Fans are a bit shocked by the news. One fan spoke out on X saying, “Katy leaving IDOL kinda of hurts. I cannot tell you how excited I am for KP 6 and a world tour, but it was always nice to know that we could see Katy every Sunday (and some Mondays) throughout the year! This will definitely be something to process. @katyperry @AmericanIdol.”
