‘WCTH’: Chris McNally Warns That Dark Times Ahead For Lucas Bouchard

TV Shows

This year has been painful for WCTH fans who love Chris McNally’s character Lucas Bouchard. Already, Hearties have seen that he is a broken man inside and out. Firstly, his fiancée dumped him. Despite some Hearties claiming his character was sketchy, Elizabeth deemed him the “safe choice.” Lucas stepped up big for Hope Valley by running for Governor.

New When Calls The Heart showrunner Lindsay Sturman determined that Lucas has a destiny. She called his path a Hero’s Journey, a phrase coined by the late Joseph Campbell, and has been used in many Hollywood features including Star Wars. It appears Lucas is now on the “road of trials” part of this journey. Therefore, this is not going to be an easy time in his path to reaching his full potential.

Once elected, things didn’t get easier, including an attempt on his life. Although he was shot, he doesn’t remember who tried to kill him. Moreover, some parts of his past that he would rather forget that have now come back to haunt him.

However, fans should expect that dark times are ahead for the new Governor. What does Chris hint about  theremainder of Season 11?

Dark Times Ahead For Lucas In WCTH Season 11

In a recent WCTH Facebook Live broadcast, Chris McNally revealed some dark times for Lucas. He may have won the election, but he is dealing with a whole heap of problems. Some of those issues are from his past. Chris warned that what is coming up is “A big snowball that’s getting bigger, and bigger, and bigger.”

Chris also understands the journey his character is going through and gives Team Lucas some hope by stating, “It’s always darkest before the dawn.” But, Chris does warn that some Hearties may find this storyline difficult to watch. Nonetheless, the actor enjoys the challenge. “This season for me was particularly interesting because you get to see the cracks in Lucas.”

Because he is handling so much and it’s more than he can bear and he does start to break down in ways that we haven’t seen from Lucas before.

Chris also shares that his character breaking down is not unexpected, “Because he is a very understanding, compassionate man, but when you put enough weight on somebody’s shoulders, everyone has a tipping point.” He concludes, “We see the pressure cooker side of Lucas as the season progresses.”

Expect Jeanette To Return To Hope Valley

This may not be a total surprise to some Hearties, but Chris McNally does warn that Jeanette will be returning to WCTH sometime before Season 11 ends. Chris warns that “Jeanette seems to have a way of coming in at inopportune times, which I think she thrives on.”

Already, many fans have surmised that this is his great romance, which could easily become the main focus of the series now that Elizabeth and Nathan are “endgame.”

WCTH Season 11 airs on Sunday nights at 9 p.m., Eastern, on the Hallmark Channel.
